As a staff songwriter and producer for DreamWorks SKG, Phillip Swann’s songs have been heard in both television and film and recorded by numerous major label artists including Clay Aiken, Lee Ann Womack, Blake Sheldon, Rodney Atkins, Lee Greenwood, John Berry, The Kinleys, Lisa Brokop, Keith Norris and Kristin Garner.

For the stage, Mr. Swann is the composer of the award-winning musical comedy, “The People vs. Friar Laurence, the Man Who Killed Romeo and Juliet.”  The show ran at the Tony-Award winning Chicago Shakespeare Theatre for two summers, as well as a sold-out run at the Met Theatre in Los Angeles.  The show was honored in Chicago with three Jeffrey Joseph nominations including Best New Musical and has recently been published by Samuel French.

Mr. Swann’s most recent projects include “DeLeaRious,” a new musical-comedy mash-up based on both Shakespeare’s “King Lear” and the creation of the King James Bible.  Mr. Swann was recently awarded the Backstage Award for Best New Score of 2009 for this production. Mr. Swann is also the composer for “Play It Cool,” a new Jazz-Musical was chosen to be a part of the 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival and which will be featured in the prestigious NAMT Festival Oct. 21 and 22, 2010.

“It Had To Be You: A Century in Revue,” is Mr. Swann’s new musical based on the life and songs of famed lyricist Gus Kahn.  Mr. Swann was commissioned to write the book and arrange the songs by the estate of Gus Kahn.  Other recent credits include “Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits,” and “Trombone,” a musical celebration based upon the poetry of famed African-American poet, journalist and statesman, James Weldon Johnson.

Mr. Swann has appeared on many TV shows as an actor and musician. Currently, Mr. Swann can be seen on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives,” where recently he recently performed numerous songs including “Whatever it Takes,” a song he co-wrote with Mark Winkler for their new jazz-musical, “Play it Cool.”

As a record producer, Mr. Swann’s credits include projects with: Helen Slater, Roberta Duchak, Dave Aguallo, Dan Namod, Jennifer Capelo, Adrina Thorpe and Greg Rowles.  A renowned speaker at songwriting and creative organizations throughout the United States and Canada, Mr. Swann’s creative workshops have been embraced by The Songwriters Guild of America, the Nashville Songwriters Association, the Dramatists Guild, BMI, ASCAP, as well as UCLA. Mr. Swann currently sits on the Board of Advisors for UCLA Extension’s Music Production Program.

Mr. Swann is a graduate of the American Academy Of Dramatic Arts in NYC and is the author of the new mystery-suspense thriller, “The Mozart Conspiracy,” his first novel.
